        A small treasure trove of on-line documents is available from the U.S. Government covering the years 1958-60.  The documents include cables from the U.S. embassy and other memoranda.  They are interesting for a number of reasons, but should not be taken to reflect U.S. policy very precisely, since they do not contain everything---just what's been declassified and put on-line.  Still, it's a fascinating look at how officials regard these situations.  You can go there directly by clicking here.  Return to this site by using the "Back" button on your browser.  This is the only set of documents like this on-line.
